How To Stop The Tobacco Beetle

The tobacco beetle cannot survive in freezing cold temperatures. Placing an infected cigar in a freezer for a few days will kill the bugs and its larvae. However, this must be done correctly and very carefully so to not damage your cigars.

First place all the cigars in airtight plastic bags. The bags must be 100% airtight. If there is the slightest gap in the seals the cigars will lose humidity and be ruined. To be certain of a good seal, you can always pust an airtight bag inside another airtight bag. Place the bag in the freezer and leave it there for 4 days. Then you must thoroughly wipe down the inside of the humidor using distilled water.

After 4 days, take the bag out of the freezer and place it in a refrigerator for 12-24 hours. Be very careful handling the cigars as they will be very brittle. After 12-24 hours, take them out and let them warm up to room temperature (this will take at least 4-6 hours). Once this is done, you can now replace your cigars back into the humidor.
